It takes a lot to be this level P O S.
And Heck loves him, of course. Heck can't get enough fire.

They hired a new Fire Chief named Jacob King in 2023 and paid him $140,550 in 2023 and $142,517 in 2024.
In 2023, Miller was the second highest paid. Heck was and remains the highest paid.

I can't even imagine this "man" rescuing a kitten in a tree.
They are short on man power. They have a minimum manning at 129 firefighters. I believe they only have about 120. But they have to recall people who are not on duty to work when they send people to training. That is what is causing the OT. All the extra training that is not really needed.
Not a fire truck his chief one truck
He just went last month lights and sirens to south Charleston for a fire
He spends More time out in other cities helping them with their runs and fire calls then in the citt
He drives around d in a new truck with the 1 on it with scuba gear in the back in case of a water rescue
He told one of the assistant chief when he was doing the budget that he was asking for a 5 million dollar fire engine. And he was buying it. It was the fine and city job to figure out how to pay for it.
I think the union had something to do with it as well. Jacob king promised them all kinds of things. They can wear shorts, they can wear there duty hats on backwards they don’t have to wear uniform shirts. Whatever happened to public trust. Do I want to see a medic coming towards me chewing tobacco and his hat on backwards. He’ll look like a punk!!
My husband was the fire chief. He was with the dept for 31 years. He wanted to retire rehire. Heck said he did like the optics of retire rehire. So Brian retired and went to the hospital as a director. Chief king has spent more money in the two years Brian’s been gone then Brian did in 7 years as the chief. The morale is awful in every dept of the city.
But the optics are ok to hire a retired fire chief. Aka Jacob king.
They are laying people off because they can’t afford to keep them.
Yep and so far the only people that are been laid off are over 50
A couple of other things that are piss me off. They offered people buy out of $25,000 if they left employment. A lot of people took the buy out. Especially firefighters that were already set to retire. Now the city is calling firemen in and paying them Overtime so the New Fire chief can have people go to SWAT classes! They paid 80,000 in OT in two weeks. And 176,000 in Ot in October just for fire
Why do firemen need swat training ??????

Overtime 2025 by month
Use this link if on mobile - the image below is too hard to read on a phone.
This is base overtime just for the last 6 months. Requested this mid-November 2025, so that amount is not 100% of the month.
